What To Expect

Journey Overview

There is something of the marvelous about Masai Mara National reserve, it’s galore of wildlife in the boundless plains and rugged outcrops is what makes safaris in this reserve unlike any other.

The quintessential Masai Mara safari delivers many attractions, as the reserve is home to an excellent year-round concentration of game, including the greatest wildlife show on Earth. The largest single movement of wildlife on the planet, the annual migration of the wildebeest is a spectacle unrivalled in grandeur. Pure theater, an action-packed safari it is. There is no experience that beats the one the Masai Mara offers. And for anyone in pursuit of activities such as Hot air ballooning, Bush dinners, Bush breakfasts, Walking Safaris, Birding and Sundowners, it is ultimately the perfect place for such.

The reserve is a photographer’s and naturalist’s paradise, with abundant elephant, buffalo, giraffe, lion and cheetah alongside the migratory wildebeest and zebra. Leopards are frequently encountered; endangered black rhino hides in the dense thickets and large rafts of hippo and enormous crocodiles are found in the Mara River. The park is also home to over 450 bird species.

They say Kenya is a flex canvas of bazillion beautiful destinations but Masai Mara stands to be on a whole new level of its own glory, about which we couldn’t agree more. The safari itinerary is as follows.

Itinerary

DAY 0: ENROUTE

Your adventure begins when you enplane for Africa.

On arrival, a representative from JABARI will pick you from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and whisk you off away to Wilson Airport where you will catch your light flight to Masai Mara reserve. Upon arrival at the airstrip, our representative from the end will pick you up and transfer you to Salas Camp where you will spend 3 nights in a luxury tent with an ensuite bathroom. Your stay shall include airstrip transfers, game drives and other camp activities, all meals, house wines, house soft drinks, house beers, house spirits, laundry, bush meals, sundowners, nature walks and children’s activities.

Considered as one of the first Masai Mara Safari camps to witness the wildebeest migration from, Sala’s Camp first hosted guests in 2004 and has become renowned for delivering an authentic Masai Mara safari experience with exceptional personalized service and fine dining. Seamlessly combining a traditional ‘under canvas’ safari experience with contemporary comfort, including private plunge pools and glass fronted tents, Sala’s Camp offers an unforgettable and magical Mara retreat.

Your Masai Mara safari will begin the moment you arrive at Sala’s Camp. It sits in one of the best locations in the whole of the Masai Mara National Reserve. Intimate and secluded, it is nestled along the tree lined banks of the Sand River in the southern tip of the reserve. As such, it is less than two kilometers away from the Tanzanian border and enjoys a splendid wild outlook and wonderful views into the Serengeti National Park. This also means that it is one of the first camps in the Mara to witness the legendary annual wildebeest migration which thunders from June to September each year. With teeming wildlife year-round, game drives never disappoint. Get excited by exploring some of the wildlife and scenery you can expect to see on your Masai Mara safari, as well as the beautiful camp you will be relaxing in. Cook-out breakfasts and sundowners out on the savannah make for magical memories. The landscape is spectacular, the birdlife impressive and the feeling of being totally immersed in nature cannot be beaten.

Your Stay Highlights:

  • Morning and evening game drive in this wild preserve.
  • Sundowner.
  • Tuck into bush meals.
