Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi

Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will make your own way to the arrivals hall, where you will be welcomed by a member from our JABARI team. You will be picked from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and transferred to Giraffe Manor. Often referred to as one of the most instagrammed properties in the world, Giraffe Manor is set in 12 acres of private land within 140 acres of indigenous forest in the Langata suburb of Nairobi.

Giraffe Manor is one of Nairobi’s most iconic buildings. The historic manor house has extraordinary appeal that harks back to the 1930s when visitors first flocked to East Africa to enjoy safaris. With its stately façade, elegant interior, verdant green gardens, sunny terraces and delightful courtyards, guests often remark that it’s like walking into the film Out of Africa: indeed, one of its twelve rooms is named after the author Karen Blixen. Surrounded by vast acres of indigenous forest one of the most fascinating things about Giraffe Manor is its resident herd of Rothschild’s giraffes who may visit morning and evening, poking their long necks into the windows in the hope of a treat, before retreating to their forest sanctuary.

Spend your 1 night stay at Giraffe Manor in a Superior Room with ensuite bathroom. Your stay includes all meals, house wines, house soft drinks, house beers, house spirits, laundry, wireless internet access, entrance to the AFEW Giraffe Centre, Orchid House dining, boules, croquet and VAT, arrival/departure transfers and transportation around the Karen & Langata area (included in the rate if the collection time is after 11.30 am on the day of arrival and prior to check out at 10:00 am on the day of departure).

EXPERIENCES AT THE MANOR

  • Breakfast with the giraffe
  • Panting in the orchid house

Enjoy the most unforgettable bucket-list breakfast in the world. You will be transferred to Wilson Airport, where you will board a light flight to Amboseli National Park. Amboseli National Park is one of the best known wildlife destinations in Kenya, primarily for excellent sightings of elephant in the big marshy area and the magnificent view of Mount Kilimanjaro (Normatior observation Hill & your stay camp offers the best vistas). Chase the perfect sight of a massive gathering of big-tusked elephants set against the backdrop of Mt Kilimanjaro. Adventures include twice-daily game drives in open safari vehicles, walks in the conservancy (led by expert Maasai guides), cultural tours and decadent bush breakfasts. You will spend 1 night at the charming Tortilis Camp with a prime location for witnessing the majesty of Africa’s highest mountain, Kilimanjaro. The tents are all spacious, with king or twin beds and elegant en suite bathrooms. There is a main lounge, bar and dining area, all exquisitely built with natural materials and thatched roofs. The Private House and Family Tent are located slightly separate to the main camp, upon the hill where they share a pool. Tortilis Camp was one of the first eco-lodges of its size, and is very proudly 100% solar. Guests can rest assure they are leaving a minimal footprint during their stay.

ACTIVITIES AT TORTILIS CAMP

  • Game drives
  • Guided Walks
  • Bush Breakfast
  • Sundowners

After breakfast you will be transferred to the airstrip where your light charter flight will be awaiting to take you to Samburu, Sasaab Camp. The area is known for its palm groves and dense forests the Samburu National Reserve offers pristine wilderness and breathtaking surroundings, boasting exceptional game viewing in remote splendor.

Sasaab is a spectacular luxury tented camp offering the ultimate safari in Samburu. Situated just outside Samburu National Reserve in Kenya’s Northern Frontier District, the landscape is dotted with mountains, wildlife and a rich cultural heritage. It is a place of abundant natural diversity with an astounding number of animals, from elephants to cheetah and wild dogs to the ‘Samburu Special Five’ (five species unique to the area): the Beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Gerenuk antelope and Somali ostrich.

Enjoy your 2 night stay at Sasaab Camp a stunning luxury tented camp in the heart of the Samburu wilderness, Perched on the edge of a river valley, the architecture of Sasaab blends Swahili and Moroccan design principals in which the African heat is of primary consideration. Its position above the river naturally facilitates watching the herds of elephant that come to bathe below as well as a host of other wildlife.

After a wholesome breakfast, you will be transferred to the airstrip for your scheduled flight to the iconic Masai Mara National Reserve. Nowhere in Africa is wildlife more abundant than the magnificent Masai Mara. Creatures galore roam these sweeping, acacia-dotted plains. And while the Seasonal migration of two million wildebeest, zebra and gazelle crossing from the Serengeti is one of Mother Nature’s greatest spectacles, the profusion of wildlife here – from 450 species of bird to the Big Five– makes it one of the best safari spots year round.

The Mara will never disappoint. The animal encounters – often so close you hardly dare breathe – are just too good. But at Elewana Sand River Masai Mara, it goes above and beyond. You’ll feel a little bit movie star at this opulent 1920s-style camp, with its dark wood, draped four-posters and antique. Furnishings adding bygone glamour to the bush. Even better is the camp’s location, on the banks of the serene Sand River: you might spot herds of ungulates crossing from the comfort of your verandah. Head further afield, in the camp’s custom-designed 4WDs, with expert Masai guides, to look for roaming elephants and lions on the hunt. Then return to base for the most dazzling of endings: a private table, set up in the wilderness, for dinner under the stars.

Bid farewell as you embark on scheduled charter flight from Keekorok Airstrip to Wilson Airport. A member from our JABARI team will pick you from Wilson Airport and drive you to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in time for your onward arrangements.
