This activity-packed itinerary allows guests the rare opportunity of seeing one of the world’s greatest spectacles, the great migration, on foot. This week-long expedition allows you to walk through the very heart of the migration during December until March, a peak calving period.
Tanzania is a vast country with diverse climates. The long rains occur from March to May, bringing warm temperatures and high humidity. The long dry season runs from June to October, offering ideal conditions for wildlife viewing. Short rains fall in November and December, lighter than the long rains, while January and February mark the short dry season, another excellent period to explore the country.
Start your mornings early to catch the breathtaking sunrise before enjoying breakfast and setting off on your walking adventure with your guide, heading northwest. Today’s walk is a gentle, flat trek through stunning acacia woodlands that gradually open onto the rolling plains the Serengeti is famous for. Along the way, you’ll have the chance to encounter a remarkable variety of wildlife, guided by an expert who will point out fascinating flora and fauna. You may even spot big cats, elephants, or rhinos—there’s nothing quite like seeing these magnificent creatures on foot.
Depending on the time of year, you may witness the great migration either at the start or end of your walking journey, but regardless, the wildlife along the way promises an unforgettable experience.
Your destination for the night is Wayo’s Walking Fly Camp. Upon arrival, your luggage will already be waiting, and your tent set up—this is far from your typical camping holiday. Spend the evening around a roaring campfire, sharing stories of the day while a chef prepares a delicious dinner, surrounded by the sounds of the African bush.
On Day 3, wake with the sunrise and continue your Serengeti trek, pausing to rehydrate, observe wildlife, follow interesting tracks, or marvel at unique vegetation. Your fly camp team will pack up and meet you at your next location, where your tent will be ready upon your early-afternoon arrival. The afternoon is yours to relax—rest your legs, enjoy the shade, and prepare for another evening of campfire tales under the stars.
Day four is a true highlight of your journey. Today’s walk follows the winding course of the Simeo River, one of the Serengeti’s most wildlife-rich areas, so keep your camera at the ready!
Being on foot allows for a much quieter approach, giving you the chance to witness impressive wildlife encounters up close without disturbing the animals. Each day brings new and unexpected experiences, making every step of the expedition exciting.
The aim of today’s trek is to reach a slightly more luxurious fly camp, featuring larger tents with raised beds for added comfort. In the evening, relax under the vast African sky while enjoying a delicious dinner prepared by your camp chef, reflecting on the day’s adventures.

As you set out the next morning and enter the Central Serengeti, you’ll notice the landscape transforming. Here, clusters of large boulders and rocky outcrops—known as kopjes—dot the plains. These natural features are favorite lookout points for big cats, as well as perfect spots for sunbathing.
Your route takes you past the largest of these formations, Oldonyo Olbae Hill, before arriving at a woodland-based fly camp. Once there, you can choose to unwind at camp or take a short walk nearby to explore the surroundings.
