What To Expect

Journey Overview

Such is Africa’s allure: that a bright fellow like Hemingway would lie in his tent, homesick before he’d even parted from a place that had come to seem more like home than home itself. We’re told these days to stick to the now, and the here, but Hemingway—like many of us lovers of Africa—knew that sometimes you can’t micromanage your passions. All I wanted to do now was get back to Africa. We had not left it, yet, but when I would wake in the night I would lie, listening, homesick for it already. —Ernest Hemingway, Green Hills of Africa

Journey Overview

Carefully and thoughtfully crafted, this itinerary gives you the chance to explore Kenya’s premier safari destination, the Masai Mara.

Although it is not Kenya’s largest conservation area, it forms part of the greater Masai Mara–Serengeti ecosystem and is world-renowned as the stage for the iconic wildebeest migration. Often described as the greatest wildlife spectacle on Earth, this annual migration represents the largest single movement of wildlife on the planet and is a display of unmatched grandeur.

The Masai Mara delivers pure drama and an action-packed safari experience unlike any other. From hot-air balloon safaris and guided walking safaris to bush breakfasts, bush dinners, birdwatching, and unforgettable sundowners, the Mara ecosystem offers the ultimate setting for a truly exceptional African adventure.

Itinerary

DAY 1: NAIROBI

Kenya’s vibrant capital and Africa’s foremost tech hub, Nairobi is a remarkable city where a national park stretches beneath its iconic skyline. On arrival, you will be transferred to the elegant Eka Hotel, long favored as Kenya’s ideal pre- and post-safari stopover. This serene retreat, located just moments from Nairobi National Park, offers the perfect place to unwind.

Settle in, enjoy refreshments, and relax as you prepare for your thrilling journey to the Masai Mara the next day. Meal Plan: Bed & Breakfast

You’ll be picked up by a JABARI safari driver at your designated location and depart the vibrant city of Nairobi for Kenya’s premier safari destination, the world-renowned Masai Mara National Reserve. Celebrated for the annual wildebeest migration and regarded as one of the country’s most sought-after wildlife sanctuaries, the Masai Mara offers unmatched game viewing. Prepare for exceptional wildlife encounters throughout your stay in this remarkable reserve.

Your road transfer will take approximately 5–6 hours, with scheduled stopovers along the way. En route, you’ll pass through the breathtaking Great Rift Valley—a vast system of geographic trenches stretching nearly 7,000 kilometers from Lebanon in Asia to Mozambique in southeastern Africa. You will arrive at your accommodation, Emayian Luxury Tented Camp, in time for a late lunch. Afterward, you’ll have a few hours to relax and refresh before heading out for an evening game drive in the Masai Mara National Reserve.

Upon arrival at the reserve gate, you’ll complete entry formalities with the park authorities by presenting your ID, passport, or resident card, before enjoying a game drive en route to your camp.

Few places in Africa rival the Masai Mara in terms of wildlife abundance. Its sweeping, acacia-studded plains are home to an incredible diversity of animals. While the seasonal migration of over two million wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle crossing from the Serengeti ranks among nature’s greatest spectacles, the reserve’s rich year-round wildlife—including more than 450 bird species and the iconic Big Five—makes it an outstanding safari destination at any time of year. The Masai Mara never fails to impress, offering unforgettable animal encounters, often at remarkably close range—experiences so thrilling they’ll leave you breathless.

Few accommodation facilities capture the unique wonder of Emayian Luxury Camp. Here, you arrive as a guest but leave as a family friend. With its breathtaking natural surroundings, personalized service, and unforgettable experiences, every moment at the camp feels truly magical.
