Kidepo Valley National Park

Destination Overview

Nestled in the world frontier region for Uganda and the most isolated national park. The Remote, untouched Kidepo Valley National Park is undoubtedly among the best wilderness areas in Africa, harboring a couple of extinct species of wildlife found nowhere else in Uganda reserves and parks. With less than 10 new visitors a day, you can expect an almost private game drive experience as you traverse through vast plains, punctuated with craggy outcrops, and a flourishing valley.

Travel to the Kanangorok hot springs, cross over the Kidepo Sand River and marvel at the towering mountains which stand vigil in the distance. In the company of your guide, you will be introduced to the park’s fantastic flora as well as its wildlife, which ranges from lion, elephant and leopard to buffalo, giraffe, a variety of antelope, an extensive array of bird species and so much more.

To add on to the reason unto why Kidepo remains your go to national park is its exceptional trail for those who would like to have a cultural experience with the Karamojong’s and Acholis plus other great tribes that inhabit this area. Besides being a true gem with huge abundance in wildlife, it remains a true rendition of tourism in Uganda that remains unknown to many.

Where To Stay at Kidepo Valley National Park

1. Apoka Safari Lodge

When you close your eyes and think of Africa, the landscape you imagine – the jagged hills, the golden grasses, the plains dotted with wildlife, the soft glowing light – is likely to be Kidepo. This is Uganda’s most remote park, far away from city life.

Located in the remote Kidepo Valley National Park, the tranquil Apoka Safari Lodge blends effortlessly into the park’s natural surrounds. Here, protected by a rocky hill, just 10 beautifully furnished rooms offer endless views across the grassy savannah, and interiors that take their cue from the environment. Rock, wood and natural hues work alongside hand-crafted wooden beds, which are romantically draped with soft, mosquito nets. Hand-woven woolen carpets offer an element of added warmth and secluded sitting rooms and private verandas cater for quiet moments. A lovely ensuite bathroom features a large tropical shower and deep outdoor bathtub – the perfect refuge after a successful day of game viewing.
